Home Page - About Us

Alas, October 13, 2008 was the final day of operation for Great Lakes Roses as a nursery.
Owners Roger & Nancy Lindley were unable to sell the nursery business.  They have sold or donated all inventory and equipment and retired overseas.  They are maintaining this website as a resource for Great Lakes rose gardeners.

Nancy and Roger Lindley have moved to Chiang Mai, Thailand.  We invite you to follow their retirement adventures on their personal website,
www.NancyandRoger.com

The best way to contact them is via email.  They check email daily and welcome questions about rose selection, care and problem solving.  Visit their personal website to learn how to reach them by phone or mail.

Thank you for all your support!

Josephine Loves Her New Home!

It was a challenge to find a new home for our "special needs" dog, Josephine the rose terrier.  The problem wasn't her age -- 12 years -- but rather in trusting her around small animals and young children.  Eventually, we found a home for her that seems ideal.

The family has two older teenagers and live on a busy street.  It isn't practical to fence their yard, so a dog has to be walked on a leash.  That's just the ticket for a dog who doesn't tolerate smaller dogs.  The teenagers' grandfather lives nearby on a small farm with two golden retrievers.  Josephine enjoys hunting for vermin in the farm buildings and playing with the big dogs.

Nancy visited Josephine after a week in her new home.  While Josephine was happy to see Nancy, it was evident she didn't want to leave her new home and the teenagers.

A new family is enjoying our farmstead!

We've been successful in selling our farmstead to new family.  They do not plan to operate a nursery or other horticulturally-related business from the site.  Please respect their privacy and direct all your questions about roses to us via email.

About Our Roses and Services
Our Roses:  Great Lakes Roses was devoted to winter-hardy modern and antique roses, all northern grown, on their own roots, and requiring no winter protection.  Also we sold everything needed to grow great roses -- Felco pruners, rose books, fertilizers and pesticides.

Services for Success:  We believe that an educated gardener is a successful gardener.  Each week we conducted free educational programs at the nursery on rose selection, care and problem solving.  Now that we're retired, we hope to develop these programs into internet presentations.  Nancy wrote the book, Roses for Michigan, available at many area garden centers and through Amazon.com.

We did not ship roses or chemicals via mailorder; however, gardeners often traveled great distances to visit the nursery, which was located south of Belleville, between Detroit and Ann Arbor (closer to Ann Arbor).

Although the nursery is closed, this website remains as a resource to Great Lakes gardeners.  Thank you for your understanding and support.
